Visit of the delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety

A delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety is visiting the European Food Safety Authority in Parma on 14 April 2008.
EFSA's management team updated the delegation on the latest developments at the Authority. The delegation included the liaison Member of the European Parliament for EFSA, Kartika Tamara Liotard, and three other members of the European Parliament (MEPs) as well as Dutch Senator Paul Peters, assistants of the MEPs and administrators from the European Parliament's Secretariat.
Key issues on the agenda include:
? EFSA's priorities in 2008
? Selection of experts, quality assurance and risk assessment at EFSA
? Scientific cooperation within and outside EFSA
? Communicating on risk
? Budgetary and staffing issues
The visit by the delegation was also to focus on risk assessment as regards pesticides, cloning, GMOs, nutrition and health claims (including nutrient profiles), food additives, and animal health and welfare.
