The EU27 external current account recorded a deficit of 23,7 billion euro in the first quarter of 2008, compared with a deficit of 30,4 bn in the first quarter of 2007 and a deficit of 2,8 bn in the fourth quarter of 2007.

In the first quarter of 2008, the EU27 external balance of trade in services recorded a surplus of 16.3 bn euro, compared with a surplus of 18.9 bn in the first quarter of 2007 and a surplus of 21.4 bn in the fourth quarter of 2007.

These provisional data, issued by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, will be subject to revision.
