CIAA launches new active lifestyles website

Brussels, 4 October 2007 – CIAA – representing Europe’s No 1 manufacturing industry, the food and drink sector – has launched a new website to highlight industry actions in the fight
against obesity and in the increasing application of best practice.

The result of more than a year of research, the website – – gathers in one place more than 50 case
studies of European food and drink industry initiatives
in the areas of consumer information, product reformulation and enhancement, advertising and commercial communications, public
education and physical activity programmes, research and public-private partnerships.

As a founding member of the multi-stakeholder European Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, CIAA and its members are acting on multiple levels and in partnership with other
stakeholders to deliver real results in the promotion of active and healthy lifestyles.

“We hope with this website both to demonstrate that Europe’s food and drink producers are doing their part in the fight against obesity and to encourage other stakeholders to adapt a holistic
approach as well,” said Jean Martin, president of CIAA. “Our case studies span the full range of tactics that must be brought to bear ? ideally in parallel and in partnership with different
stakeholders ? in order to make a difference.”

CIAA will update the site on a regular basis with new case studies demonstrating industry’s commitment to the promotion of best practices in the fight against obesity. In addition, the site
provides links to other initiatives and case studies documented on the websites of our member organisations: national associations, sectorial associations and individual companies.
