The Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment has published its statement on its February workshop on Evolving Approaches to Chemical Risk Assessment.
The workshop was designed to explore in more detail some of the approaches described in the committee’s report on Variability and Uncertainty in Toxicology of Chemicals in Food, Consumer
Products and the Environment.
COT felt that the workshop emphasised the need to make uncertainty in data more explicit; and the importance of using transparent and reproducible methods. New approaches should only be
implemented if, after careful consideration by the committee, they offer a clear benefit in improving the committee’s risk assessments.
