High satisfaction rating for START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN.TM program

ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 21, 2007 – In a satisfaction survey conducted during the 2006 growing season, The START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN.TM program earned a 98-percent satisfaction rating.
Excellent weed control, weed resistance management and increased yield protection and potential are contributing factors to the high satisfaction rating.

“These are just a few of the many reasons we encourage farmers to give the START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN. program a try,” says Chris Turner, Monsanto Selective Chemistry Marketing Manager. “With over
55 percent of U.S. corn acres planted to Roundup Ready© Corn 2 this season, we want to ensure growers are getting excellent weed control throughout the season and are confident they can
enjoy the benefits of the technology year after year. The START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN. program does just that while simultaneously minimizing the risk of developing weed resistance.”

Farmers from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin participated in the START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN. program. The program involved using a premergence
application of a Roundup Ready RateTM of a Harness© or Degree© brand residual herbicide on a YieldGard© Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 hybrid followed by a post application of a
Roundup© agricultural herbicide. Participating farmers compared these corn acres to other YieldGard Plus with Roundup Ready Corn 2 hybrids sprayed with their current herbicide programs as
well as to their current corn programs with the hybrids and herbicides of their choice. Their results were reflected in the 98 percent satisfaction rating.

Dr. Bill Johnson, Associate Professor of Weed Science at Purdue University, says the START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN. program’s two-pass system reduces early-season weed competition and selection
pressure for glyphosate-resistant weeds, while increasing the stability of yields and net returns. “Growers are realizing that one-pass weed control programs are not as reliable as two pass
programs,” explains Johnson. “Growers should target their worst weed problems with at least two modes of action, preferably by using a residual herbicide followed by glyphosate, or glyphosate
plus a tank-mix partner where appropriate.”

Using a Roundup Ready Rate of Harness or Degree Brands followed by a post application of Roundup agricultural herbicides delivers excellent early-season weed control and gives farmers greater
flexibility when they apply a postemergence Roundup agricultural herbicide. “The best way to achieve control is by starting with a clean, weed-free field and keeping it clean throughout the
season. That’s the essence of the START CLEAN, STAY CLEAN. program,” adds Turner.

● Start with a clean field by controlling weeds early.
● Use Roundup Ready technology as the foundation of your weed management program.
● Add other herbicides and cultural practices where appropriate as part of the Roundup Ready system. Use the right herbicide rate at the right
● Control weeds throughout the season and reduce the weed seed bank.

Always read and follow pesticide label directions. Roundup Ready© crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup© agricultural
herbicides. Roundup agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not glyphosate tolerant. Harness© and Degree© are restricted use pesticides and are not registered in all states.
