Italian PDO and PGI products

Italy has some 4,500 typical Italian products; of these, some 216 are origin-protected.
Our entire country’s history and traditions depend upon the protection and development of the great Italian heritage of food and agriculture.
Italy’s Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies ever more vigorously supports and promotes the system of denominations adopted by Europe to develop and protect food products.
These systems make it possible to encourage farm production and producers by protecting product names against imitation and abuse, while at the same time helping consumers to
recognise and choose quality.

Compatibly with the import standards for food products in various countries, many PDO and PGI products are distributed in the international marketplace. Certified Italian products can
therefore be purchased and consumed abroad.
