The Agency’s new General Advisory Committee on Science (GACS) is looking for a Chair and members. The committee is responsible for horizon scanning, science governance, developing good practice
and informing science priorities.

The new GACS Chair and six new members will join the Chairs of our existing Scientific Advisory Committees, who will also be members of GACS.

Applicants for the post of GACS Chair will be scientists with a strong and compelling record of achievement at senior level. Applicants for the four posts as expert members will have a proven
academic or professional track record of scientific expertise in an area relevant to the Agency’s work. Among these four posts we are keen to appoint one member with expertise in the social
sciences (including economics) and one with expertise in food technology.

Applicants for the two posts as consumer/lay members will have experience of working on consumer issues and of working with others in a committee context.

Appointments are for an initial two-year term with the possibility of reappointment. The GACS will meet twice a year in London. Additional input between meetings will be required from the
Chair, and possibly from members. Appointments are not salaried, but members receive fees for attendance and preparation and reasonable expenses. Successful candidates will be required to
declare any interests that may be relevant to the work of the GACS.
